Stores, restaurants, schools, and more across the UK are closing as the country plans to head back into lockdown. The United Kingdom has seen their interest rates stay extremely low and they want to keep it that way, however, the central bank plans to buy more bonds from the government. The country has seen one of the worst years for their economy at the hands of Covid-19 and leaving the EU. However, stimulus package plans have already been released and the country plans to continue their previous furlough policies. The country knows that this year will be hard to recover from and are attempting to prevent the economy from worsening any farther.
Do you think the US will start to follow suit as more countries are going into lockdown and providing stimulus etc.? Do you think there is potential for the current US administration to follow suit?
i think there will a giant chance throughout this year that the US could slip back into lockdown and send out stimulus checks like many European countries are doing and i think that the feasibility of this outcome happening has definitely increased with the new presidency
ReplyDeleteI think the question on whether we will go into stricter lockdown really depends on the president. With Trump, we cannot really see any lockdowns in the future, just because each state will have their own say. With Biden, we can predict that he has more plans for a harsher lockdown as a nation rather than states. I really don't think what other countries do will impact what we do because the US kind of just does what it wants. Even if what other countries do is working, I doubt we will follow their lead.
ReplyDeleteI think that as winter months approach, there is a chance that we find ourselves back where we were last March and April. A surge in unemployment may been seen again, increasing the need for a stimulus. I think that under Biden a lockdown is much more likely which could cause this to unfold.
