Automation

An article was put out last week that a third of the us jobs right now could be at risk as soon as the
year 2030. The article goes on to talk about how automation could replace a third of the labor force
and make business more efficient. From a business standpoint this is great, more efficiency and saves
cost in the long run. But the question that needs to be asked is, do the benefits of automation
outweigh the negatives? If this does become reality, where do all the displaced workers go, and what
job opportunities would be available for them? If job automation becomes a norm in our society the gap of inequality will continue to grow and put more strain on the citizens of this country. Do you guys think there should be regulations that protect the american people from loosing jobs from automation?

  1. The format of your post is atrocious. In terms of automation, if our country loses 1/3 of our jobs to anything, automation or something else, this could have a huge negative impact on our country. Unemployment would obviously rise, job search would become more competitive due to less jobs, and the standard of living would increase for those who benefit from automation. People will forced out of their professions and the standard of living for most would surely decrease.

  2. It is very interesting that automation could take over 1/3 of the countrys jobs, I don't know how realistic that really is but if it does become real, education will be more important than ever. I think as automation becomes more of a norm other jobs will be created that could possibly be better. It will put a strain on the workforce which could have short-term downfalls but I think the country would be better off in the long run.

  3. If you are talking about the long run, I believe that this will not be beneficial. The loss of jobs in our economy will only stunt our economic growth. Also, if a third will lose their jobs by 2030, this means that the automation industry will not need the labor workers anymore.

  4. If this goes into effect our nation would probably go into a deep depression or at the very least a recession because 1/3 of the population would cut their spending. And since it would effect the poorer and working class, it would cause the need of welfare to increase. One of the ways to stop the economy from going into a spiral is to create more jobs else where.
