NAFTA

NAFTA

Canada,Mexico to firmly reject US NAFTA  proposals. NAFTA is the agreement between Mexico,Canada ,and USA that allows free trade. Nafta has benefits both for consumers and businesses. Consumers get lower prices and greater selection of goods. For businesses NAFTA allows for more market access and elimination of tariffs. If a new deal cant be reached it could make for an economic disaster. It would increase cost for consumers and effect multiple industries such as agriculture , manufacturing , and automotive. Although leaving NAFTA  has some cons it also has some positives . NAFTA cost the US 750,000 manufacturing jobs to Mexico, also it lowered US wages in those given industries. What decision should the US make in regards to NAFTA?

  1. The wage, of course, is lowered in those countries because they have lower GDP and overall price of goods and services. Cost of products from the two countries in NAFTA are already risen because of that and an everyday-life example would be the avocados. This is just one part of the entire trade, but the impact of having no deal affects the citizens. I hope the US has a better idea of how to deal with this.

  2. Overall, I think there are more negatives than positives to leaving NAFTA. Canada, Mexico, and the United States all benefit from being a part of NAFTA, and we have built good relationships with these countries. If the US decides to leave the relationships with the countries will be weakened, and the other countries could experience tough economic times. Mexico gets a lot of jobs from the United States and they would lose this benefit if the US decides to leave. I don't think the US should leave.

  3. Personally, I think change could be a good thing for the economy of the United States. It would create more jobs here that are currently in Mexico and increase wages in those specific industries here. It is no secret that our country is in a massive debt. Maybe a small change like this could have an impact on our debt and decrease it, even if it is only by a small amount.

  4. In my opinion, I think it would not be smart to leave NAFTA. The USA has built many good relationships because of NAFTA. I also think it would hurt the economies of those nations that are trying to leave. It could effect the way that the USA trade with them and how they trade with the USA. Although they may get a better selection of goods. They may not be able to get the bargain that they have while being apart of NAFTA.
