The States People are Fleeing in 2013

This article discusses how thousands of people are moving from certain states in the Northeast and in the Midwest to states in the South and the West.  The economic recession has been related to the reasons as to why people are relocating all over the United States.  Even though the overall residential moves around the country has been declining, there has been a pattern that shows which states people have been fleeing fastest.  New Jersey is the highest state with the most people moving out of the state at approximately 3,900 people.  Other states with high move out rates are New York, Illinois, Michigan, Maine, Connecticut, and Wisconsin.      Other reasons as to why people are leaving are the cost of living in the state and economic opportunities.  People are looking to relocate where it would be warmer, have better economic opportunities and less expensive.  States with the highest ratios of people moving in are Arizona, Washington D.C., North and South Carolina, and Florida.

  1. Cost of living is very high in state like New York. It does not help the economy either when a large amount of people are moving from one place, but it does help other place where these people are relocating. Its an interesting thing, I would like to see the next few months unfold.

  2. Seeing this pattern is very interesting. It doesn't surprise me that a couple of New England states are on the list of states that people leave. I am from Vermont, which has a relatively high cost of living and not many well paying jobs (not too many huge cities). I can see it understandable that people flee these areas where it costs too much to leave when not receiving enough money. Especially when this past weekend most of New England got pounded with snow, the Boston area getting around 3 feet. That can't be cheap.

  3. This article's statistics do not surprise me at all. With the way the economy is currently, along with the negative effects it has had on people and families it only makes sense that we would see many states with high cost of living have high numbers of people living. The number of jobs available are already low and many places aren't hiring across the country so it would make it very difficult for people to live comfortably in these areas. I can't blame these people at all and actually support their decisions to leave and find better suiting states to live in.

  4. It is a really good article and i think it is sensible that people are moving to places where they might have a better employment opportunity and a low standard of living. But with the economy showing signs of recovery it would be interesting to see if people would move back to places like new york
