  1. This blanket tariff will be for the most part terrible for the US consumer. It will eliminate comparative advantage with the foreign countries, something that was greatly benefiting both the US and foreign countries' economies. Additionally, our domestic manufacturers have recently garnered a poor reputation in regards to reliability, build quality, material quality, and overall value of the product that is far less than the sticker price. Furthermore, reducing the competition for our manufacturers will create even more complacency for improvement, leaving the consumer with terrible and over priced vehicles. On top of this, nine out of the 12 major domestic manufacturers are owned by three companies, GMC, Ford, and Stellantis; with Stellantis not even an American owned company. There are a plethora of other reasons why this policy is undeniable half-wittedM, short sighted, and will absolutely harm every party involved, especially the US consumer. However, there may be a small possible benefit to this. That being, people may consider public transportation as an option as car ownership could become a nonsensical expense.
