  1. As the news reported, the economy now is still not that encouraging. To be specific, the majority of metropolitan cities’ unemployment rate are rising in January, such as Detroit which rose to 15.6%. Michigan has suffered from rising unemployment rate since 2008, which is largely due to the huge decline in the manufacturing area. It may take a long time for Michigan to get recovered from economy decline.

  2. This is very discouraging to see, especially so close to graduation. Hopefully these numbers will start to go down. It is interesting, however, to see the contrast between Michigan and California, two completely different parts of the country, and yet they are having the same problems.

  3. I believe these unemployment numbers are higher than seen in this article, especially for graduates. People seeking jobs after graduation will be facing the hardest job market seen in quite some time. The 15% increase in unemployment seen in Michigan is still a low number for college graduates. Sounds to me like its a good time to go to graduate school...or take a year off.

  4. Even though this is the case, these high unemployment rates in California's agricultural areas are not unusual since many seasonal farm workers collect unemployment for several months out of the year in those areas.
