Hyperloop will be here in 2020 and the impact will be huge

It was announced that Columbus would be one of the cities being considered for the hyperloop. The hyperloop would connect Chicago, Pittsburgh and Columbus, allowing people to travel from Columbus to Chicago in under an hour. The company believes that it will be fully operational in 2020 and will have many impacts.

One impact of the hyperloop is that it'll create more jobs in the Columbus, Chicago and Pittsburgh areas and maybe some other cities along the way. Another impact is that it could make people more productive. If people are having a shorter commute, then people will have more time which would allow people to be more productive than before. It will also increase the amount of time it takes to ship things. If more people are shipping things this way, it could decrease the amount of traffic due to trucks.

Even with all of the impacts, I don't think Columbus is the best place for the hyperloop. I think it would work better in a city that is more populated and has or uses public transportation. In Columbus we don't have subways or trains that people are using on a daily basis.

  1. I agree Brooke, I think the hyperloop would be better suited in a city with more public transportation. I am excited to see the impact the hyperloop will have in the future for people who want to work in one city and live in another.

  2. While I agree that the hyperloop could greatly benefit a larger city, I think that if Columbus were to be included it would help the city to grow exponentially. Though it would take some time to establish an infrastructure more equipped for a larger population, including the addition of more public transportation, in the long run it will only go to benefit Columbus as well as Ohio as a whole.

  4. When the idea of the hyperloop was intitially released I saw the proposal for a circuit between much larger cities: New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. I agree with Brook, TJ, and Beverly's comments on it being better suited in a larger city loop, but if the production process for something like this is not too expensive and takes relatively little time, there is no reason it cant be instituted in smaller city markets like Chicago-Columbus-Pittsburgh. What an exciting time we live in; another great contribution to society by Elon Musk.
