Michael Heath and Daniel Petri from Bloomberg Business report that Australian exports provide clear signs that middle-class incomes are continuing to gain and preferences are shifting in China toward services and higher-quality food products. The shift is critical to boost productivity as China seeks to avoid a middle-income trap and regain its place as the world’s top economic power. Interestingly Chinese students are flocking to Australian universities in record numbers, reflecting the Asian behemoth’s growing wealth. The appeal of Australia, outside its similar timezone, clean environment and weakened currency, is a pathway to residency.

What do you mean that the path to citizenship was a factor. Are Chinese people looking for a pathway out of China? If these are students who have money, and an education why do they want to leave?
