$238 billion loss for U.S. mail; Saturday delivery may end

The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service announced Tuesday that it will incur about $238 billion in losses in the next 10 years if Congress doesn't permit it to revamp its outdated business model.
The agency is proposing an adjusted mail service schedule, which will likely cut Saturday delivery, and eliminating its prepaid retiree health benefits.
Looks like U.S. Postal Service is having a hard time. Hopefully they can make the necessary changes and continue to provide universal service.

  1. The U.S Postal Service is becoming outdated, and its services are a last resort option for most people. Paper mail is much less efficient than using e-mail and other services the internet provies, and this is reflected in the large amounts of money it is losing.

  2. I wonder how USPS could revamp their delivery system as electronic mail continues to dominate. I am curious to see what they have planned and what their hopes are to become profitable again especially when faced with free, more efficient competition. Obviously they still remain the number one choice for delivery of packages and items however I'm sure that the profits earned from relying solely on such a system is very low.

  3. I was wondering with the advent of electronic information age, would the e-mails, Facebook, or other electronic communication tools replace the old paper mail systems finally. Would it be more profitable to invest on the electronic communication tools? (since those electronic communication tools are more convenient)
