According to a CNN
Money article, Target is offering “free money” to customers by offering 10%
off gift cards on Black Friday. Other in-store discounts that Target is
offering during the holiday season include $50 off Beats headphones and $10 off
an Apple TV if customers order online and pick up their items at a store.
Target is using these in-store
discounts to bring customers into their stores, ultimately hoping to encourage
them to spend more money than they normally would online. They are hoping that
these promotions will help them recover after the data breach that decreased
in-store sales during last year’s holiday season.
Target
stores will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, two hours earlier than last
year. They will also offer some online-only deals for those who don’t want to
deal with the crowds on Black Friday.
The
article mentions that online shopping growth is expected to be far greater than
in-store growth this year, so it will be interesting to see what kind of effect
these in-store deals have on Target’s holiday sales.
Shoppers should take advantage of this. The likelihood of another data breach like we saw at target happening to the same store again is next to nothing, and consumers should feel no uneasiness in regards to consuming at target again in the future.
ReplyDeleteTarget is smart to integrate both online and in store deals. Though they are trying to increase traffic in their stores, because people will generally buy more "extra" stuff in a store than online, they can't deny they have grown significantly online. They need to cater to that demand, and it appears they are finding a balanced way to entice a variety of shoppers.
ReplyDeleteThese incentives are what will make Target have a good holiday season and probably beat earnings. A lot of lower income people will most likely take advantage of all of these deals because they are more than likely the ones who weren't involved in the credit card scams. This is because most low income people don't have the credit to have credit cards. It's interesting to see that they are selling gift cards for less than they are worth. This shows just how desperate they are to not have a bad holiday season.
ReplyDeleteTarget strategy is a good one and hopefully it will be a successful Black Friday for them. Target is covert all areas(online and in-store) they're using data that shows online shopping will be greater than ever. So target is offering online deals but still getting online shoppers to come to the store knowing that they will see more deals and spend even more. I think it's a great idea.
ReplyDeleteAs we know todays goods market is slowly moving towards an integration between online venues and in store shopping. Consumers should take advantage of the venues at hand and in terms of Target should avail the incentives offered either online or in person. The strategy applied by Target will result in a higher consumer base due to their integration of online and in store deals.
ReplyDeleteAccording to one article, at Target, the number of online orders and sales increased more than 40 percent compared to the prior year, setting a record as its biggest online sales day ever. Target also said hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people were waiting in line before its 6 p.m. openings. Thus, it appears the strategy was extremely successful.
ReplyDeleteI believe that these discounts will work well. I know that I went to target on Black Friday this year. I'm sure that online shopping was greater than the amount of people who went to target stores. This will help restore confidence in target after the breach of security earlier this year.
ReplyDeleteI believe many consumers will take advantage of this "free money" and be encouraged to actually travel to a local store. This is smart on Target's end because people are almost always more willing to consume more if they see the products in person versus online. I believe that online sales will outweigh in store in hopes to regain confidence in their system because people just don't want to wait in a line for hours just to shop.
