World Cup 2026 Impact on U.S Cities

The World Cup is set to come to North America in 2026, and many U.S cities are preparing for a great impact on their economies. In a study done by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), hosting the 2026 World Cup could add more than 40,000 jobs and more than $1 billion in incremental worker earnings across North America. The study further estimates that host cities will see $160 - $620 million in incremental economic activity. Host cities such as Seattle ($100 million), Philadelphia ($500 million), and Houston ($1 billion) are expecting huge economic impact.

This is important for the economy for many different reasons. First, the World Cup will bring many new jobs in these cities.  There are also going to be people coming to the U.S from all around the world. This will increase consumption and spending. These people will also need to pay for places to eat and stay, which help the restaurant and hotel industry. With everything going on in the U.S during this time, expect the real GDP to increase and the country to see many economic benefits.

  1. Comparing this post to the one about the 2024 Paris Olympics, it is interesting how two similar events will have such a drastically different impact on the cities they are hosted in. I would expect both events to boost the economy in the area and create more jobs but that is not the case. I wonder if the World Cup is expected to have a positive effect on the U.S. economy but our nation will instead deal with the same issues that Paris is anticipating come this summer.

  2. As a world cup and soccer fan, it is very good to see that the tournament will bring so many jobs to the economy. This tournament always brings people together from around the world so it will be interesting to see how well the economy is doing before/during/after the tournament. One thing I am curious about is how many jobs stadium expansions will create. This was one problem with the world cup coming to United States because some of the stadiums chosen could not hold the minimum number of people required.

  3. The World Cup being in the United States will for sure have positive affects on the US economy. I am curious how soon the impact on the economy will start before the actual games are played. Surely jobs to put in grass, and upkeep the current stadiums will start months in advance.

  4. I am interested to see what the US economy looks like approaching, during, and after the World Cup. This event brings people from all over the world so there should be a boom in the economy.
