Lithium Mines in North Carolina Revived

In terms of the future of our world, the EV industry must develop a competitive market to create a cleaner alternative to gas powered vehicles which damage the environment. In order to do this lithium must be in possession to create the batteries for cars. Usually China dominates this market and has a majority of mines worldwide. In this article it is talked about how North Carolina has lithium mines to offer and how they had been mainly dormant since the 1980’s. It is also talked about how the demand for lithium has rocketed in the EV market and since Joe Biden has made the initiative for more of an EV market the demand is high. China is usually the main supplier of lithium and for North Carolina to have the biggest deposit in the US means the US can now supply their own lithium instead of helping to fuel China’s economy.

In terms of what this all means is that the US can compete with China in manufacturing things with lithium as they have their own supply. This also means that the market for EV’s will increase. Another effect that this will have is that there will be more jobs available for low income workers in North Carolina which will help to fuel the economy.

  1. I appreciate that the United States is able to use some of their own resources to produce things that would likely better the environment within the future. The United States building its own economy is also a benefit of the lithium that was found in North Carolina. Hopefully precautionary measures are still being taken whilst extracting the lithium and still allowing the environment to flourish at its disposal.

  2. Wow Jackson this was a very interesting read. I did not know that North Carolina had so many lithium mines to offer and how that impacts us as a country. I am happy that we are able to use our own resources during this process.

  3. Interesting read, I didn't know anything about this. I am glad that the U.S. is able to to supply their own lithium instead of helping fuel China's economy.

  4. While I believe that EVs are a great thing for the environment, I think its still important to ask ourselves how will the decision to increase production of EVs effect the environment. It's not something I have personally looked into but I think some important questions can be asked about the reallocation of resources if we were to make that change as a nation.
