Presidential Debate

If you watched the debate last night, regardless if you support the left or the right, you can agree it was an absolute disaster and frankly embarrassing to our country. As Trump and Biden continuously took jabs at each other, there was very few time to actually hear them speak on policies. We had some discussion about the affordable care act, among other things, but there was nothing on the fiscal stimulus package and the trade deficit which I was hoping to hear.

The stock market jumped today, especially early in the day, despite this political turmoil. The market throughout the election will be very interesting to watch, and will likely be highly volatile if this keeps up. For the second debate, I hope they are able to keep both candidates to their allotted speaking times so we can hear more about their plans moving forward.

Curious to hear if any of you had other thoughts on the debate?

  1. I believe it was like a covid test in both nostrils at once. You are correct, it was vitally important to talk about the stimulus packages along with the trade deficit. But I believe the trade deficit can be negated due to the fact that each country in the whole world is probably facing that problem due to the pandemic. The stimulus package was important and to a certain degree, I think both parties knew that it was necessary, no matter how much the government spending had to increase. What Biden did shine light upon is a way to keep the businesses and corporations running and not completely shut down. If that did happen, there would be not much need for stimulus packages and not much need for the country to drown in its own money.

    1. I guess you could say Biden shined light on a way to keep businesses running but it was very vague. Also, even if the economy fully reopens many corporations will fail or go bankrupt because they will no longer have sufficient funds for day to day operations and there will very likely be huge job cuts. Biden set a plan but ignored many of the more severe issues in terms of the reopening of our economy.
