The Evolution of Wind Turbines in Spain and Their Impact on the U.S Economy

Environmentally friendly initiatives have become increasingly popular amongst the United States government over the past decade. One of the most recent breakthroughs in this space is the use of clean, renewable energy. Wind turbines have become a common way of generating this kind of energy and now engineers in Spain are working on ways to develop a wind turbine more efficiently. They have developed a wind turbine that does not need the massive blades that are used on current models.

This breakthrough has potential to impact the U.S economy in regards to government spending. According to the article, the new design greatly reduces the amount of material needed to produce wind turbines. If the United States can successfully translate this design into production of its own turbines it could see a huge reduction in expenses, thus decrease government spending. This would allow for more room for growth in the clean energy industry, which is already growing at a steady rate, while increased production of clean energy sources will boost production.

  1. Wind turbines are a very interesting concept that could do a lot of good for the economy and the environment. Back in San Diego, there is a desert that I frequently travel to. Upon arrival, you immediately see a decent amount of wind turbines spread across the desert planes. There is also a rundown community whose power most likely comes from these turbines. However, there is a lot of unused space (most likely due to the spacing issues regarding the massive blades). If these turbines could be replaced with these space-efficient ones, then several things could come from it. For starters, more people will be contracted to build these turbines. Moreover, having more turbines will bring more power to the surrounding areas (or to whatever location the turbines are connected to), which could in turn help support the building of more infrastructure and development.

  2. Having wind turbines become popular in residential areas with this new design would be very impactful. Vortex was explaining how they are trying to target homeowners with this new design with the hopes to ultimately become the choice of renewable energy for residential areas over solar power. The very small design looks like it would just go on top of your roof like an antenna and with no maintenance cost it could become very popular. For this reason I think vortex and this new design are something to keep an eye on in the future.
