Nearly Half of Republican Voters Support Stricter Gun Control Laws

A recent study done showed that about half of Republican voters support stricter gun control laws in the US.  About four months ago the same survey was conducted and there was a five percent increase since then.

About 49 percent either "strongly support" or "somewhat support" stricter gun laws in the US.  Out of the 49 percent, 25 percent said they strongly support and 24 percent somewhat support. The other 45% was either "strongly opposed" or "somewhat opposed" to stricter laws.

This survey was taken after the recent shooting in Las Vegas.  The gunman had shot and killed 59 and injured 500.

Gun control has been a controversial topic for ages.  If more shootings occur I think the number of people wanting stricter gun control laws will continue to rise.

  1. I wonder if these officials want more strict laws for all of the US or strictly for Vegas. Regardless, if a law is passed that favors more strict gun laws that will significantly affect the gun industries sales. In an article I read shooting business reservations are being canceled however the interest in self defense is higher than ever before. With such a terrible event like this its obvious that people think they need more protection. I would guess gun sales may increase in Vegas because of people feeling the need to protect themselves. The sales may also increase if people think that laws are going to become more strict .

  2. Changes in gun control laws could effect the U.S economy significantly. If more strict gun control laws were put into place, then the government would have to spend a substantial amount of money to enforce them. This could impact government spending, which could intern effect taxes and saving. This could also reduce consumption, as the fire arm industry most likely makes up a sizable portion of spending by U.S citizens.

  3. Do you think the discussion on implementing stricter gun control will raise the price of guns? Even if the government imposes stricter gun laws, it will primarily limit new purchases rather than control those guns that are already privately owned. I believe the current discourse on gun control will raise sales currently in fear of stricter gun control in the future.

  4. I agree with Aaron out of fear of stricter gun laws in the future, it would be reasonable that prices would go up due to the demand of consumers right now.

  5. As of all the recent violence and gun debates, I think it makes sense that there was an increase in voting for better gun control. Regardless of political party, there are many violent events that we all would love to stop or at least handle much better. Therefore, stricter rules and regulations on the ability to get guns would be very nice to see. Or decreasing the type of guns allowed, and cracking down on things of that nature. Hopefully we'll take a step in the right direction.
